As a Staff Attorney—Knowledge Manager, Melissa Mickey works with the ALAS Claims lawyers to help them defend and manage their cases.
Melissa researches and organizes case law on various legal malpractice topics, drafts, and updates template documents for defense counsel and general counsel, including the ALAS Model Arbitration Provision, and responds to member inquiries regarding the ALAS claims history. She also helps ALAS’s Loss Prevention Department by researching and writing about professional liability issues. Melissa has authored articles that have appeared in the ALAS Loss Prevention Journal, and she coauthors the Schadenfreude Diaries newsletter.
Melissa began her career as a law clerk for the Honorable Ellen Carroll, a former bankruptcy judge with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. Before joining ALAS, Melissa was an associate at Reed Smith LLP and Loeb & Loeb LLP, both in Chicago.
Melissa has two young children who keep her on her toes. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and traveling.
