As the leader of ALAS’s claims management team, Ken Small oversees all aspects of the ALAS Claims Department, including assessing, reserving, and resolving claims against member firms.
Ken has spent his career at ALAS managing complex claims arising under the company’s lawyer professional liability, employment liability, and management liability coverages. He has worked closely with ALAS member firms and defense counsel to devise and implement effective litigation strategies and has negotiated numerous favorable settlements resolving lawsuits and claims against ALAS assureds. In addition, he advises on risk management issues and claims handling procedures and has presented numerous loss prevention programs on behalf of ALAS.
Prior to joining ALAS, Ken was an associate and then a partner in the litigation department of Sherin and Lodgen LLP, a Boston-based law firm. In July 2005, he became a founding partner of the Boston office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, where he was a general civil litigation practitioner specializing in business and commercial litigation. Ken conducted all phases of litigation, including discovery, settlement negotiation, and trial for matters in both state and federal courts. He represented attorneys in disciplinary proceedings and served as Vice Chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association Civil Litigation Section, Chair of the Professional Liability Group, and served on its task force on lawyer discipline.
