Darren Baker plays not one, but two crucial roles for ALAS and its members. As an Assistant Director of Underwriting, he guides members and prospective member firms through the entire process of applying for, incepting, and maintaining their LPL and combined MLI/EPLI Program with ALAS. As Corporate Secretary, Darren is responsible for ensuring compliance by ALAS, its Board of Directors, and Senior Management with corporate governance and related regulatory requirements for risk retention groups in ALAS’s state of domicile, Vermont.
In his Underwriting role, Darren oversees the new business and annual renewal application process for member firms; underwrites coverage, issues policies, and provides confirmations of insurance; and consults with members on complex coverage issues under their ALAS policies.
As Corporate Secretary, in addition to his close consultation with the CEO and the rest of Senior Management, the Chair of the Board, and Board Committee Chairs during regularly scheduled board meetings, Darren is responsible for the annual delivery of the ALAS proxy statement and handles the proxy submission, voting, and business portion of the Annual General Meeting.
Prior to joining ALAS in 2014, Darren was a partner in the Corporate and Securities Practice Group of Schiff Hardin LLP (now ArentFox Schiff LLP).
Outside of ALAS, Darren keeps busy as the father of two energetic daughters and can be seen in the stands of their sporting or theater events on most weekends. He is also a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission for the Village of Hinsdale.
