Daniel W. Smith

Overview

Dan Smith is a lawyer in the Loss Prevention Department. He helps insured firms manage exposure to professional liability through education and advice on legal ethics, lawyer liability, and effective risk mitigation techniques. His duties include writing, speaking, and counseling on professional responsibility and lawyer liability topics. 

Before joining ALAS in February 2006, Dan was a litigator at Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago for more than 13 years, the last six of which he was an equity partner.   

He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law with a JD; he was a member of the Law Review and admitted to the Order of the Coif. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from the University of Notre Dame, where he majored in the Program of Liberal Studies (Great Books).
