As the President and Chief Executive Officer of ALAS, Dan Donnelly oversees all aspects of the company’s operations. He also serves on the Board of Directors and is the primary liaison between the Board and the ALAS management team. Dan enjoys engaging with representatives from member firms and encourages those representatives to share suggestions, comments, or concerns.
In addition to meeting with member firms, Dan interacts with reinsurers, regulators, vendors, external actuaries, auditors, prospective member firms, and legal industry professionals. In these sessions, Dan highlights claims trends, loss prevention efforts, new initiatives, business results, and operational updates. He uses these opportunities to demonstrate ALAS’s unique and industry-leading approach that encompasses unmatched loss prevention offerings, unrivaled claims management services, and unequalled member service dedication.
Prior to assuming his current role in September 2022, Dan served as Senior Vice President—Claims. In this role, he oversaw all aspects of the ALAS Claims Department, including assessing, reserving, and resolving claims against member firms. Dan joined ALAS in 1996 and, in the ensuing years, managed thousands of lawyer professional liability, employment, and management claims in the United States and internationally.
Before joining ALAS, Dan was a partner in the litigation department of member firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP. His experience included trials in Illinois and Wisconsin and argument before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Dan is the proud father of two adult children, one of whom is an assured at an ALAS member firm. The other is a cybersecurity professional. In his spare time, Dan is an avid recreational basketball player.
