Andy Niehus (NEE-uhs) serves as ALAS’s Director of Actuarial Services. In this role, Andy and his team provide analytical support in evaluating ALAS’s claims reserves, product pricing, reinsurance programs, and capital positions and strategy. His team assists in financial reporting, risk management, and ad hoc product and claim analysis.
As the owner of ALAS’s internal economic capital model, Andy works with several teams across ALAS to provide key information to senior management in their annual decisions related to rates, reinsurance, and enterprise risk.
Andy returned to ALAS in 2021 after serving as Senior Actuary at ALAS from 2013 to 2016. In between service periods, Andy led the enterprise capital modeling teams at both CNA and Kemper in Chicago. He has a strong background in insurance and actuarial analytics, programming, and statistical model development. Prior to joining ALAS in 2013, Andy also worked at Allstate and spent two years as an equity options trader at Peak6.
